Empowering Women’s Health Through Awareness: Harshamitra’s Continued Fight Against Cancer

At Harshamitra Cancer & Multi-Speciality Hospital, awareness is not just a campaign—it is a movement. For years, our institution has remained at the forefront of community health initiatives, tirelessly working to spread knowledge, reduce stigma, and empower individuals to take proactive steps toward preventing and managing cancer. On May 2, 2025, we added another meaningful chapter to this journey by organizing a Women’s Cancer Awareness Talk at ITC Company, Viralimalai, exclusively for 50 of their women employees.

This event was expertly led by Dr. P. Sasipriya (MBBS, DMRT, MD(RT)), Radiation Oncologist at Harshamitra, whose dynamic session shed light on vital issues affecting women’s health today. The core objective of the program was to create a safe, informative space where women could learn about cancer in an accessible, empowering way.

Focus on Early Detection and Prevention

One of the strongest weapons we have in the fight against cancer is early detection. Unfortunately, due to lack of awareness, cultural hesitations, and misinformation, many women delay screenings and checkups—leading to diagnosis at advanced stages. The session emphasized:

  • The importance of routine screening for common cancers affecting women, such as breast and cervical cancer.
  • Understanding early warning signs and symptoms.
  • The role of lifestyle in cancer prevention, including diet, exercise, and stress management.
  • Vaccination and its role in preventing cervical cancer.
  • Dispelling myths and misinformation that often lead to fear or negligence.

Dr. Sasipriya ensured the talk was interactive and practical, welcoming questions and encouraging dialogue. Participants were encouraged to take responsibility for their health, share the knowledge gained with peers, and undergo regular medical checkups.

Extending Our Legacy of Awareness

This awareness talk is not an isolated event. Harshamitra has consistently organized hundreds of similar programs across Tamil Nadu over the past several years. From educational institutions and corporate workplaces to rural villages and urban centers, our mission has remained unwavering: to educate, empower, and encourage action.

Some of the key features of our ongoing awareness initiatives include:

  • Specialized cancer awareness sessions tailored for men, women, students, and elderly groups.
  • Collaborations with government bodies, private organizations, and NGOs to expand reach.
  • Visual and interactive learning tools like posters, leaflets, and models to enhance understanding.
  • A focus on accessibility, delivering talks in both English and regional languages to reach diverse audiences.

These sessions have touched the lives of tens of thousands of individuals, leading to increased screenings, earlier diagnoses, and greater understanding of cancer care.

Women at the Heart of Change

Women often serve as caregivers, nurturers, and health decision-makers in families. When a woman is educated and empowered, she becomes a beacon of awareness within her community. Recognizing this, Harshamitra places a special emphasis on women’s health programs—not only to improve outcomes for individual women, but to strengthen the health of entire families.

We believe that equipping women with knowledge and resources is one of the most effective ways to reduce the burden of cancer in society. The ITC event was a testament to that belief, with enthusiastic participation and positive feedback from all attendees.

The Road Ahead

While much has been achieved, our work is far from over. Cancer continues to impact millions, and misinformation still poses a barrier to effective prevention and care. At Harshamitra, we reaffirm our commitment to:

  • Expand our reach through more awareness camps in underserved areas.
  • Partner with institutions and corporates to bring education to workplaces.
  • Leverage digital platforms to spread messages of hope and knowledge.
  • Train educators and health workers to continue the chain of awareness.

We invite everyone—individuals, companies, schools, and community groups—to join hands with us in this journey. Whether it is attending a talk, volunteering, or simply sharing what you learn, every action contributes to a healthier future.
