At Harshamitra Cancer & Multi-Speciality Hospital, we have always believed that prevention is as important as treatment. With cancer cases steadily rising due to lifestyle and tobacco-related habits, especially among the younger population, our mission has grown beyond the hospital. We are committed to building a tobacco-free, cancer-aware generation, and that begins with education.
As part of this larger vision, our hospital recently conducted a Cancer Awareness Session at Trichy Engineering College, focusing on the harmful effects of tobacco, the importance of early detection, and the role of lifestyle in cancer prevention. The session was led by our Managing Director, Dr. G. Govindaraj Vardhanan, who brought years of experience and insight into the conversation.
A Wake-Up Call to the Youth
Today’s generation is constantly exposed to tobacco in various forms — from cigarettes and beedis to modern alternatives like e-cigarettes and vaping devices. Most often, these are marketed as harmless or less harmful options. However, medical science tells a different story. Dr. Vardhanan emphasized how even short-term exposure to nicotine and other chemicals in tobacco can lead to long-term dependency and health damage, particularly for growing bodies and developing minds.
Through relatable examples and science-backed facts, the session helped students understand:
- How nicotine creates addiction by altering brain chemistry
- The early signs of lifestyle-related cancers
- Why e-cigarettes are not a safe alternative
- How simple habits like diet, regular exercise, and avoiding substances can drastically reduce cancer risk
The auditorium was filled with attentive faces, curious questions, and honest realizations — a clear sign that the message was not just heard, but truly received.
Building Awareness, One Student at a Time
Harshamitra’s initiative isn’t just about one talk. It’s part of a growing movement we’re proud to lead — one that involves taking cancer awareness to schools, colleges, and communities. We strongly believe that awareness at the right time can save lives. Our outreach programs are designed to engage, educate, and empower, helping young people make better health decisions for themselves and their families.
The session at Trichy Engineering College was yet another successful step toward that goal. By starting conversations where they matter most — in classrooms and among young minds — we’re nurturing a generation that will think twice before lighting that first cigarette or trying that vape pen.
A Message for All
To every young individual reading this:
Your health is your power. Protect it.
You don’t need tobacco to feel confident, focused, or social. What you do need is knowledge — and the courage to make choices that support your future.
