Date: 13.04.2025
Place: Ayakudi, Dindigul District
Organized by: Harshamitra Cancer and Multi-speciality Hospital
On 13th April 2025, Harshamitra Cancer and Multi-speciality Hospital, a well-known name in cancer care and treatment, organized a free cancer screening camp for women at Ayakudi, Dindigul District. The camp was aimed at spreading awareness about the importance of early cancer detection and providing free health services to women in rural and semi-urban areas.
Why This Camp Matters
Breast cancer and cervical cancer are two of the most common cancers affecting women in India. Unfortunately, many women in villages and small towns do not get regular health check-ups due to lack of awareness, access, or financial limitations. Realizing this, Harshamitra Cancer Hospital has been conducting regular cancer awareness camps and screening programs across Tamil Nadu, reaching out to communities that need it the most.
Early detection plays a crucial role in cancer treatment. When detected early, most cancers can be treated successfully, and patients can lead healthy, normal lives. With this objective, the camp was planned and organized in Ayakudi.
Screening Tests Done at the Camp
The screening camp offered two important tests:
- Thermogram Breast Screening
A completely safe, non-invasive, and radiation-free test that detects abnormal heat patterns and blood flow changes in breast tissue, helping to identify early warning signs of breast cancer. - Pap Smear Test for Cervical Cancer Screening
A simple and effective test to detect any abnormal changes in cervical cells, which, if found early, can prevent cervical cancer.
Both these tests were conducted free of cost for the women attending the camp.
Excellent Participation from Local Women
The response from the local women was highly encouraging. Women of all age groups from Ayakudi and surrounding villages attended the camp in large numbers. The medical team from Harshamitra explained the purpose of each test and cleared the doubts of the participants, who appreciated the initiative and hospitality extended by the team.
Along with the screening tests, awareness sessions were conducted on breast cancer, cervical cancer, symptoms to watch for, the importance of early detection, and lifestyle changes to reduce cancer risk. The women were also taught how to perform breast self-examinations at home.
Many participants expressed that this was the first time they had undergone such tests and felt reassured after learning about their health status. They also requested more such camps in nearby villages.
Our Commitment to Community Health
Speaking about the event, Dr. G. Govindaraj, Managing Director of Harshamitra Cancer and Multi-speciality Hospital, said:
“We are committed to bringing quality cancer care and awareness to every corner of our state. Our mission is not just treating patients but also preventing cancer through early detection and education. We thank the people of Ayakudi for their active participation and warm support.”
Looking Ahead
The success of this camp adds to Harshamitra’s growing list of community health initiatives. The hospital has conducted over 500 free screening camps across Tamil Nadu and plans to continue reaching remote areas with essential cancer screening services in the coming months.
