Trichy, October 2 – Harshamitra Cancer & Multispeciality Hospital, Nagamangalam, marked another milestone in patient care today with the grand inauguration of its Stoma Clinic, specially designed to support patients living with stomas after major surgeries.
The clinic was inaugurated by Dr. R. Kishwanth (MD, DM, Consultant Gastroenterologist, Hepatologist & Interventional Endoscopist), who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The event was also attended by Dr. G. Govindaraj Varadhan, Executive Director, and Dr. P. Sasipriya, Managing Director of Harshamitra Hospital.
Understanding Stoma Care
Speaking at the inauguration, doctors explained the importance of specialized care for stoma patients:
“A stoma is a surgically created opening on the abdomen to help eliminate body waste when natural functions are disrupted due to conditions like cancer or diseases of the intestine or bladder.
Depending on the condition, patients may undergo procedures such as colostomy (large intestine), ileostomy (small intestine), or urostomy (bladder). Living with a stoma requires proper daily care, guidance on using stoma bags, and psychological support. This dedicated Stoma Clinic has been established to meet these needs.”
The clinic will be supported by specially trained nurses and guided by doctors, ensuring patients receive not only medical advice but also practical care tips and emotional support to lead a better quality of life.
