As part of Pink October 2025, Harshamitra Oncology Centre joined hands with Bharathidasan University, Trichy, to conduct a Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar and Exhibition on October 10, 2025. The event aimed to educate young students and staff about the importance of early detection and prevention of breast cancer.
The seminar featured insightful sessions by Dr. Govindaraj, M.B.B.S., M.S., M.Ch., F.I.C.S., and Dr. P. Sasipriya, M.D., DMRT, Executive Director and Senior Radiation Oncologist of Harshamitra Oncology Centre. Both speakers emphasized that _breast cancer, when detected early, is completely curable_, and that awareness plays a major role in saving lives.
Dr. Sasipriya highlighted the importance of self-breast examination, timely screening through mammogram and thermogram, and adopting a healthy lifestyle to reduce risk factors. She also addressed common myths and encouraged the students to act as ambassadors of awareness in their families and communities.
The event included an informative exhibition with posters, models, and awareness materials prepared by the students and Harshamitra’s education team. These displays explained the stages of breast cancer, signs and symptoms, treatment options, and preventive steps in simpleterms.
Beyond the Pink October campaigns, Harshamitra Oncology Centre has been consistently working throughout the year to promote cancer awareness and prevention across Tamil Nadu. The hospital regularly conducts:
- Free screening camps for breast, cervical, and oral cancers in rural and semi-urban areas.
- Educational programs in schools, colleges, and corporate offices.
- Counseling sessions for both patients and staff, led by an experienced in-house counselor, Mrs. Sherin.
- Diet planning and nutritional support by expert dietitians to help patients maintain strength during treatment.
- Wig donation initiatives, where wigs made from donated human hair are provided to chemotherapy patients at making cost, to restore confidence and dignity.
- Monthly review meetings among management and department heads to analyze patient care and service quality for continuous improvement.
Through these ongoing efforts, Harshamitra continues to be a center of excellence in oncology care, combining advanced treatment with compassion, education, and community engagement.
The seminar at Bharathidasan University was yet another meaningful step in this journey — inspiring young minds to spread the message that _“early detection saves lives.”_
