Love Can Be Knitted Too

A friend of mine has a simple but beautiful hobby — she knits.

Recently, she made soft beanies out of pure cotton and donated them to my cancer patients who had lost their hair due to chemotherapy. At first glance, it may seem like a small gesture. But for someone going through cancer treatment, it means the world.

Pure cotton beanies are surprisingly hard to find in the market. Most available ones are woollen or mixed with acrylic, which often cause itching and discomfort — especially for patients whose skin has become sensitive after treatment. These handmade cotton caps, however, are gentle, breathable, and incredibly comfortable.

What touched me most was seeing my young patients wear them with joy. They don’t just feel comfortable — they feel cared for. They feel seen. The beanies are not only soft; they are beautiful. And when a child battling cancer smiles because of something so thoughtfully made, it reminds us what true compassion looks like.

There are many ways to show love in this world. You don’t have to be a doctor, nurse, or healthcare worker to care for cancer patients. Sometimes, caring can be as simple as knitting a cap — stitch by stitch, with kindness woven into every thread.
